Smith Building Work Begins / Your Questions Answered
As Heritage Building Group begins work on the interior of the Smith Building the week of June 12th, you will see nominal changes to how you navigate around campus. However, below are answers to questions you may have. If your question is not answered here or you have an idea to share, please send us an email at BldgComments@firspresatl.org and a project team member will respond to you.
Parking:
The Heritage construction crew will NOT park in the surface parking lot. However, as shown on the site plan below, construction equipment and materials will take up approximately sixteen (16) parking spaces through the end of January 2023. We have offered the construction crew the ability to park in the church’s parking deck for a fee, but we anticipate most will take MARTA or park off campus. Construction crew parking will be closely monitored so as not to impede member, visitor, or preschool parking and traffic.
Construction Entrance:
Construction crew members will be entering the Smith Building through the North Door from the surface parking lot and not through any of the doors members, visitors, or preschool children use. You may know this construction access door as the “old Boy Scout Room” entrance (Click here for an image). All construction crew members will wear identification badges and will not have occasion to be in “public” areas of the church or preschool.
Smith Building Lobby:
We recognize the Smith Building lobby is a much-trafficked area and it will be maintained for public use with as little disruption as possible during normal church and business hours. We will update you in advance when any closures are scheduled.
Elevator Usage:
The Smith Building elevator will be functional and available for congregational use to access the 2nd and 3rd floors during the week and on Sundays. This elevator will likely not be available to the congregation during the months of January and February 2024 while the new elevator is being installed. We will issue reminders, updates, and directions for alternate use of the north elevator in advance of the Smith elevator closure.
Next Steps:
As we move to a more active stage of construction, the Capital Project eBlasts and communications will become more pragmatic and focused on impacts to campus and construction updates including progress photos.
While construction begins on the Smith Building in a few weeks, the Building Committee and Project Team have been working diligently to complete and approve shop drawings and purchase equipment needed for the project. Thanks to your generosity, the Church has collected more than enough funds to cover the Smith Building portion of the renovation project a successful project that will enhance our ministries and the communities we serve.
