Smith Building Contractor Selected
As reported previously, FPC’s Building Committee and its partners on the Project Team have taken the past few months to select the best contractor partner for the Smith Building component of the overall Project. We are pleased to announce that the Heritage Building Group (Heritage) has been selected to lead this effort. The intentional pause taken by the Church at the end of last year allowed the Project Team to concentrate attention on the Smith Building and determine that Heritage should lead the construction process. We have also refined the Smith Building design with focused attention from our Community Ministries and Community Partners and completed detailed pricing, scheduling, and logistics efforts with Heritage, which specializes in interior renovation projects in occupied buildings.
Heritage is organizing its project team to commence work on the Smith Building interior improvements. In the early summer months extending through the end of the year. We will issue a detailed schedule of events and activities related to Smith Project in the next few weeks. To facilitate our desired completion schedule, we have authorized Heritage to initiate the procurement process for elevator and mechanical equipment together with electrical gear; all of which are experiencing long-lead times.
Heritage is a local firm, and the owners bring more than forty years of combined experience in successfully completing complex corporate and medical office interior projects in Atlanta. In their proposal, Heritage noted, “First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta provides a space for those with conviction and compassion honoring commitment and worship. The Smith Building deserves a beautiful and functional space to cater to the Atlantans requiring its special services and accommodations; at Heritage Building Group, we take this very seriously… We are incredibly passionate about the opportunity to partner with such an important institution in the hometown we love so much.” The Building Committee has been impressed with the level of detail and preparation Heritage has shown in responding to our proposal and is looking forward to having them begin work on the Smith Building this summer. FPC’s Building Committee Chair, John McColl noted, “Heritage is local company built by two strong project management players who have a breadth and depth of experiences in shell and core interiors renovations that match well with the demands of the Smith Project. We are confident they will bring the same passion and dedication to this project that they have in the other dozen jobs they have done for me professionally.”
